I patched this area with plain sheet metal 35 years ago and it’s been covered with carpet since. Doing it right now since I want to lose the carpet. Here’s a random pic before I made my final cut between the fender wells. Going to replace them later…

The floor wraps over the back edge with a 3/8” inch or so lip. I don’t remember how the floor was originally tacked to that back crossmember. Were there spot welds on the bottom of the lip to the c’member, were they on the top of the floor to the c’member or …?

Thanks
Charlie

Based on what I have found with my '90, it seems that there were spot welds to the top of the crossmember, near the tailgate edge in the flat area.
Did you buy repair panels? I need to do something with mine, I am tempted to do the flat metal/blend technique.

Thanks for the reply. I bought the LMC rear floor sections. I'm pretty much done trimming up and was ready to weld them in when I ran out of gas for the MIG. :(

They seem to fit well, only complaint is about 1/3 of the way in from the sides, the ribs in the LMC floor are a bit narrower than the original. I'm hoping to give it a go with a body hammer and dolly to fix it, could just as easily turn in to a ball peen hammer bashing fest. I'm not that good on detail work requiring patience. I'll post some pics up here.

If you have carpet, the flat piece is cheap, easy and quick.
