Engine Bay

Hey, i want to clean up the engine bay in my 78 K5. i really dont know where to start or what paint to use to paint stuff, what to paint, ect. so could you guys help out?

By the way i have a stock air cleaner that i painted semi-gloss black i just dont have it on.

Hell that looks new to lots I've seen over the years LOL! If it were mine I would just take the heat pad off the hood and paint the brake fluid resivour. If you wanna paint stuff I have had good luck with rustolem type of paints in an areosol can. Personally I think original looks best unless you plan on pullin' motor out and painting everything.

I don't think anything really needs to be painted... I'd just give it a good power washing.

Also I highly suggest looking at some of Eastwood's products as far as paint goes and for anything else that you may need as far as cosmetics.

I agree, it doesn't look that bad other than the hood heat shield thingy.

Spray it all down with some simple green or some other oil/grease cutter and then power wash it all off. Repeat ever so often and enjoy.

If you find some worse spots that really need attention, I like a satin black.
I try to find paint for tractor parts, it's typically dries nice and is very durable. It also sprays nicer.

As for the wiring, you can get the plastic looms and run wires through those. Just some time organizing the wiring/hoses etc. and making it all look neat will help. Plus, you can figure out where that 'mystery' wire is going to.

are you trying to go show-car nice or just pretty up a trail rig a bit? on mine (sees trail and street), i used cheapo walmart paint when i did my engine swap. black for the frame and white for touchup on the firewall. it's held up well for about 2 years, now. my engine itself has about a billion coats of duplicolor engine enamel. ok, actually 2 primer, 2 cast-iron gray paint, and 2 clearcoats. for my accessories, valve covers, etc, i used maroon touchup paint that my dad had left over from his taurus. no, i don't think using ford paint on a chevy engine will kill it . everything has held up really well, and it's seen rocks, nasty mud, texas summers, and all sorts of abusive conditions like that.

What do you guys recomend for the inner-fenders

And when i pressure was the inner-wheelwells should i take out the battier or can i leave it in? i dont know how water proff they are

Battery shouldn't matter, I'd be more worried about getting water into the engine...

As far as the inner fender, I vote Chassis Black paint from Eastwood.

I used it all over my frame and its held up superbly so far, I have a small write up in my build thread about it in my sig.

something that might look go is take some black paint and paint the edelbrock letters on the aircleaner and vavle covers black.

how do you guys think that would look?
