i have a friend who has some BBC parts, he has a radical roller cam and retro roller lifters & also some aluminum h-beam connecting rods...only parts i really want are the retro roller lifters, but he wants to sell it all together. i thought i might could run the rods also but he told me that the aluminum h-beam rods aren't good for an engine that runs for extended amounts of time..he said they will stretch-that they are for drag racing engines that run only for short periods of time..is this true?

yes

Yes, aluminum rods are best in a race engine that comes apart frequently for inspection and a refresh.

How much does he want for everything? If the price is right then you could always buy it and sell off what you don't need or can't use.

iirc, he said he wanted $400 for all of it, but the cam is probably way to radical of a profile for anything I'll ever run & now the rods are a no go also..i just wonder if buying a set of retro roller lifters would be less hassle and cheaper...it won't be alot of peeps wanting such a radical cam & aluminum rods...i guess i need to see what i could expect to sell the rods & the cam for & see how much money i would wind up having in the lifters that way vs. just buying another set. if i could sell the rods & cam to a racer that could use them, i may could wind up w/ the lifters for cheap...thanks for the reply....

just out of curiosity, when using those aluminum rods how often would it need to be torn down and checked? i want to build a fairly radical engine for a mud bog truck, i may could use all the parts he has in it....could they run for a full season before an inspection tear down, probably 2-3 dozen runs thru a 100ft pit(it may run 5-10 min. each pass) or do they need more like a tear down and inspection between every run or every other run? i just don't have the funds for a tear down every race or even every other race.

but if they can run for a full season or even just 1/2 a season before a tear down inspection i may could swing that, in-between each race could I check for rod stretch with 1 of those screw in spark plug hole tdc thingys and a degree wheel or maybe a dial indicator thru the spark plug hole, to catch rods that have stretched out of spec before a catastrophic break down w/o doing a complete tear down?

different train of thought here:
if they can run a fairly decent amount of time between tear downs, i may could use all of the stuff he has and build a 12-12.5:1 comp ratio BBC w/that radical cam, rods, and retro lifters and some good ported aluminum heads and a single plane intake & have a good motor for our pit..you got to really have the power to turn the tires and try to stay on top or you probably won't make it thru.(I'll post a vid of some truck runs thru our pit)

i tend to shy away from things I'm not used to. i know most all sbc oem & ''regular'' aftermarket parts like the back of my hand, except for parts made of ''exotic'' materials, like the aluminum rods, but I'm a total BBC newb along w/their race parts...this stuff was bought for a drag car..would the same combo work as well in a mud drag as it would on a drag strip? if so i may want to use it all for a dedicated mud bog truck motor. thanks for your patience and knowledge!

check out the jeep at 1:50-2:00...thats what i have to compete with!

I do something similar to that stuff in that video too, usually just consists of sitting on the back porch and watching the grass grow, but same idea... :p::D

I would pass on the retro roller lifters. This is an item that sees a lot of abuse in a race motor.
