Does anyone have a list of Chevy engine casting numbers. I'm trying to find out what "mystery" motor is in the Blazer. This was a hack job when I bought it.. was diesel converted over to gas.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
And BTW : The new guy "PHYTE" his wife is about to have a baby. He called me today.. we're trying to get a local Austin K5 gathering going.. Just thought I'd pass on the info.. Not only did Phyte get a new baby (blazer) his wife is having his baby..

It's better to have it and not need it. Than to need it and not have it !

K5King - Happen to know where exactly the numbers are on the 350? My rig originally had a 305, and the previous owner replaced with the 350. I heard behind the alternator on the cylinder head there's a small 'pad' with the numbers. I loosened the alternator and swung it over and couldn't find anything. I'd like to solve the mystery of what year my engine is. Thanks if you can help out.

K5king,
Here are the casting numbers I found on the front of the block just below the passenger side head:
17S428587 and along with that was : V0318CHD

K5kig,
Is that list something you could publish here on coloradoK5? It would sure be useful to a lot of us.
Thanks

V0318CHD
V = Made in Flint, MI
0318 = assembled March 18
CHD is either:
'73 307 2bbl from an X body, or
'77 350 4bbl from a California Vette, Chevelle, or Monte Carlo, originally attached to an automatic trans, L48 RPO.

17S428587 is part of the VIN of the car it was originally in. I would guess that the 7 stands for '77, and 428587 should be the serial #. Oh, and that '77 350 was originally rated at 180 hp (net).
