i wanna clean the engine compartment since i took so much time to detail the engine. i brought the presure washer home from work, that did $hit. id like to use a degreaser but i dont wanna kill the lawn<since thats were it stuck> i used a napa degreaser in a can and a scuff pad, that worked great but i dont have the patience to do it for 40 hours. anyone have a simple easy lazy one hand hold a beer do it solution??

when i did it....i used some engine degreaser and ALOT of cheapo rags. i spent like 3hours, but it sure did come out purdy. haha....i just stood on the front axle and went to work....kept the beers close by though. haha. first time offroad, and all my hard work went to hell, but hey, atleast it looked good for a day.

yeah i figured i could do that but i was hopping for a easier less of a hangover kinda solutuion...im ok with getting dirt on it i just wanna loose the 20 years of leaky oil being flung around by the fan and is caked on. the left of the hood latch was degreaser and scuff pad the right was just the presure washer.

Go to the dollar store and get some Mean Green cleaner. put it in a pump up sprayer soak it down 2 or 3 times and rinse with water hose. I do't think it will hurt your grass, its never hurt mine. Lather, Rinse, Drink, Repeat:D :D

trust me, it's worth the time.....it looks WAAAAY better man. just bite the bullet and do it. you'll wish you did after the motor is in. i also repainted the crossmember/frame rails. and took a wire brush to the crossmembers/etc.(do that first) haha...yeah, i collected like 24years worth of crap in there. found a few tools in the fender wells too...haha.

this is one of the few times i wish i had a kid... heres $20 heres another $10 if you bring a friend to be beer bitch!!

it sounds good in theary but they have no attention to detail...
anyhow is there anything any one knows of like spray it on walk away spray it on then presure wash it off like mud instead of grease?

When I rebuilt mine, I took the time to clean the compartment, but then it got all muddy again when I went wheelin' the first time.

Engine degreaser, cheap rags, and a wire brush. I also put in a few coats of paint to match my engine. What a waste. :) I'd probably at least get the greasy/oily parts done, but not bother with the rest.

Oven cleaner.

He did mention something about not killing the grass...

Bought some stuff called "Oil Eater." Got it at Costco. Works pretty good and is non toxic. Anything you get that won't kill the grass will have to be applied a couple of times though. A bristle brush will help. After you are done be sure to soak the grass and water over the next day or two.

At Bed Bath and Beyond you can get a hand held steam cleaner. I've tried my mother-in-laws and it did a fine job of getting the gease off, untill she saw what I was doing with it and took it back:haha: . One day I'll buy one for myself.

The purple degreaser at home depot wont kill the grass. I use it all the time. Just hose down that area of the lawn once you're done. When I detailed cars at a dodge dealership for a while we just used a mild degreaser and a pressure washer. If you REALLY want it to look better, remove EVERYTHING and paint chassis saver in their with a foam brush. Fresh paint on the inner fenders and firewall will make a huge difference. Look...

exact same thing happened to me. driving up a stream took care of some of it, but i just sort of gave up. i'll keep the big clumps of stuff cleaned off, but it's my offroad truck. it's not going to be spotless.
