Engine Condition?

Once the oil drains out I will remove the oil pan as well....but I guess I should expect the bottom to look as good as the top if this truly is a reman??? :dunno:

Do the leak down test. If all is well i would just get a good gasket set for it. If they leak, get a valve job and be done with it. I doubt a reman motor would have that many miles on it. Reseal everything and run it.

the 882 came on my gm goodrich motor as well.standard late 70s head.my block is a 82 i believe.mine has 60 thou on it and is still runnin good.from what ive heard from you,id say its good.clean it up re seal and paint it and run it.

when you say "reseal it"...do you mean everything...rear main...etc or do you mean just valve covers and oil pan?

Usually means everything except the head gaskets. One of those while you have it out things.

I got the cylinder leak tester today...if it rains this weekend I will be working on the engine instead of the body

Cool! That should pretty well tell you if the motor needs gone through or not. My bet is everything will come out within spec and you can just clean it, put new gaskets on, paint it and call it good! BTW, my .02c, if you keep the aluminum intake, paint it orange to match the rest of the motor. An aluminum intake on a blazer will really take away from the "original" look. But if you like that look than keep it aluminum! Depends what your end goals are for the engine compartment i suppose.

I will definitely paint it...what was on there originally?

anything wrong with the aluminum intake? Should I think about putting a cast iron one on there?

The aluminum one will be better than a cast iron one.

And depending which intake it is, it will look very close to stock to most peopl if its painted orange like the rest of the engine.

It would have been cast iron and painted with the rest of the motor. Im pretty sure they were still orange until 76.

Only reason I would go back to iron is for getting it really original. If you can deal with it not being just as the factory would have been, than paint it orange and enjoy the extra performance it gives.

My thoughts as well.

the quick connector on the leak down kit is tiny....I don't know what size that is...but my compressor connector is a 3/8...I an going to have to do something to get it to fit...don't know if they got anything that small at HF...

Maybe it is 1/4 but it sure doesn't look like it

you need a different coupler on the female side.

Any hardware or autoparts store should have them, the one on the LD tester is the most common style.

everything I got has the big connector...I'll have to make a convertor with the big connector on one end and the small female on the other...
