Engine cuts out

I need some help with this one. When I press the gas pedal gently and evenly, the truck accelerates just fine. When I mash the pedal to the floor, the engine cuts out like it's not getting any gas and will usually die. My first thought was the fuel filter, so I changed that. Same issue. Now I'm thinking the sock on the fuel pump is clogged, or the pump itself is on its way out. I'm pretty sure it is a fuel delivery problem.
The ignition components (plugs, wires, cap, rotor) are all good. I had to replace the ignition module last year too.
'89 Suburban, 350 TBI, 215k on the odometer. Only engine mods are headers, exhaust and TBI spacer.

If I have to replace the fuel pump, I want to make an access door in the bed. Can I do that with the tank in, or do I need to drop it?

Thanks for the help!

If that pump hasn't been changed with that amount of mileage on it, you got lucky,,, iin my opinion.. :D

Dropping a gas tank is not as difficult as alot say, cutting holes for a part that shouldn't need to be replaced that often, just not my thing,, i dunno.

and yes, I would highly suspect fuel pump, but check the pressures first if possible.

The pump is 9 years old, from Autozone and it replaced the original. I really don't look forward to dropping the tank again.

Thanks again.
