Hello All,

My 89 350 TBI Jimmy is having some problems. If I try to start it normally, all it does is crank. If I give it some gas, it will start up but then cut out as soon as I take my foot off the gas.

Any ideas on where to start my troubleshooting first?

Thanks for the help, you guys are life savers!

Thanks for the reply.

I should have mentioned it's not throwing any codes.

I actually replaced the IAC a couple months ago while rebuilding the TBI. It wasn't malfunctioning, I was just replacing everything. I kept the old one, so maybe I'll pop it back in and see what happens.

Thanks for the tip.

than I would look to the fuel system, filter, injectors, pump, etc..... OBD1 always assumes the fuel is 100% operational......

When was the last time the Fuel filter was replaced?

The exact same thing was happening to a buddy of mine.
Turned out to just be a clogged up filter.
Super simple.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, it ended up being the IAC! Ryoken, you are the man!

I put my old IAC back in, and the truck fires up and runs perfect. The new part was about 2 months old. Thanks for nothing Autozone. Is there a way to troubleshoot the part or should I just toss it?

I think I'm going to keep a spare IAC in my glovebox. Had I been out wheeling instead of in my driveway I would've been SOL.

yeah, ya gotta watch that with aftermarket manny's, some are better than others.... ign module's are the ones that are notorious for that.. genuine AC Delco only...

good, glad ya found it.. :D

Take it back to where you bought it. Chances are they will replace it if you're nice. Now you have your spare. :)

AC DELCO is made in Mexico or China:eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1:. Just replaced all the electrical switchs for a tilt column I picked up cheap. I am disappointed by GM:sign27:

that's been going on for awhile now.. till I see the quality fall off, I'm still a fan...

I install about eleventy thousand Delco plugs a year in the boats, I'll be the first one ya hear bitchin about a quality issue... :haha:

Ya it hard to not find made in Mexico or China on any auto part. i didn't mind the made in Canada on GM

tho it's the case the majority of the time that the quality is down on that stuff, it's usually spec'd that way when ordered... they can build decent stuff I'd bet, if your willing to spend more, which many US corporations haven't been..

a throwaway society dirt cheap...
