What's your best cold engine degreaser?

My Cummins is a dirty pig and the trans is even worse. Need a degreaser that can be used in the shop where welding takes place. Chlorinated stuff is out.

Simple green? Anything better?

If you have access to a zep guy. ZEP formula 50 is amazing.

Or if not. I have good luck with anything foamy.

Castrol Super Clean "The Purple Stuff" works well, but can take paint off some things and eat at aluminum if you leave it on too long...

I use E-Z Off or cheap dollar store oven cleaner on grimy engines on lawn tractors and other things,it works well, but also can be too agressive on some things..

Nothing beats a steam cleaner IMO--a pressure washer can come close, but those can inject water in bad places if your not careful or ruin some fragile things...

Actually I have read its not good to wash a diesel, something about the injection pump not liking the sudden temparature changes...but if you just had it warm, not hot,or cold,I dont see where it could harm anything..

Most citrus based engine cleaners work well without flammable fumes and stuff.

Zepteen is the best ive ever used. assuming it's legal where you live. we use it at work, our yard in LA has to have me order it for them and they drive up and get it from me because its illegal to use in CA.

I'll second Castrol Super Clean, but honestly the "Purple Power" Castrol knockoff they sell at Autozone works even better and is way cheaper.

Out of the couple different ones I've tried I like purple power before I hotsy something clean.

I've had good luck with Simple Green on the oil-soaked aluminum block engines I see all of the time. Combine that and a little pressure or a steam genie and it should fall right off.

I got some purple power. It was available locally in a gallon container for pretty reasonable price.

Got a couple cans of some citrusy stuff on the way as well.

Working out the logistics of handling the big pig now.

Seems just about all the cleaners i've used in the past were intended to be used on a warm engine. We'll see how these work on a cold engine.

Hot water powerwasher...

Purple power was what we always used on the Terragators back in the day. Does wonders on cleaning up the tin walls inside of shop too. Just spray it on with a hand weed sprayer and powerwash it off after about a minute.
