I have a truck that had a serious electrical fire, No interior left, roof sagged, doors warped. Fire under hood was pretty serious too, the aluminum master cyl is gone, most all flammable stuff is gone. I was hoping to use this engine, but have no experience with this kind of stuff.

Anybody have any input? What can I expect with this engine. truck was a ford IDI diesel.

We sold quite a few "roached" engines at the junkyard...burning cars was and still is a popular method of "disposing" of one for insurance scams,so a lot of them end up in salvage yards..

We would not offer a "gaurantee" ,but if the engine proved to be junk after it was installed and made to run,we would "hold" the customers money until we heard whether it was good or not...some of the engines ran nice once the fire ruined parts like carbs or intakes were replaced, others didn't,but I would guess most of the ones that didn't had been thrashed by the vandals who stole the car, before torching it...

I would say the chances are good only external parts got damaged, not the internals like pistons,etc...you should be able to score one cheap if it cant be heard to run and they balk at giving any warranty...but it is a gamble..then again, non burnt engines from salvage yards can be fubared as well..

My plan is to rip the cab off of it and save the drivetrain (f350 4x4). I have enough parts to hang on the motor to get it running, I guess I will give it a try.
