How can I tell if the block that is in my truck is the one it came with from the factory??? Numbers matching? And I know that in the GM "A" bodies the build sheet was under the rear seat but where is it in our k5's?

On the front pass. side of the engine block there is a small flat spot right where the head bolts to the block, stamped on this pad is the "suffix code". This will tell you when , where and what the engine was used in. If the block has been decked this code will have been wiped away as well.

You can also check the casting numbers on the back of the block as well, they are generally located on the drivers side behind the head right along where the bell housing bolts to the block. These numbers are more general ( might tell you it's a 350 2 or 4 bolt 1970-1976) so they can tell you if you are in the right ballpark.

These are a few sites that can help you determine what you have

Partial VIN should be stamped along with the suffix code.

Casting date codes on the block/heads could also help, but the partial VIN is easiest.
