engine install question

gotta 86 k5, putting a new 350 in it and i have a sm465, when i took the old motor out, i left the bellhousing on the tranny, the tranny will already be in the truck, is it easier to line up the input shaft if the bellhousing is on the motor or the tranny?

i dont have a stick but all the swaps i have done with my friends, they have the bellhousing bolted to the engine first.

I bolted the bellhousing to the tranny to give me more room to manuever the motor and get it lined up.

If you bolt it to the motor, there's 8" of tranny input shaft you have to be careful not to hit.
