My jimmy seems to run ok but a little underpowered compare to my truck. The engine light comes on briefly when I put a load on the engine like going up a hill or trying to pass someone. The light goes out after about 15 sec though. I took it to my local shop that had a scan tool and he said it came back with a ESTcode and that I should replace it. Well I did so and still the same. He also told me I had a ping and hesatation in the engine. Never really noticed until he said that now it bothers me to no end. Anyone got any ideas? Its a 90 jimmy with new 350 crate, comp cam, intake, msd dist, headers, ect... all pretty new within the last 5k.

I put in a new knock sensor when the engine was done along with the ESC that came with the new msd dist. Maybe I got a bad one of those I guess.

You may also have too much mechanical advance in the MSD. Too much will cause detonation and the knock sensor will pull timing and throw a code. Check the springs and weights. Also total advance.

No springs and weights in a computer controlled distributor. Mechanical advance is taken over by the ESC module.

But you may have too much initial advance....dist dropped to far advanced.

I guess Ill take it tog the guy who put the engine in and see what they think. Im not to sure on the timing stuff. thanks for the help
