Hey Guys,
I just finished installing a dual fuel propane kit on my blazer and I am having a problem with full throttle. First, some background:
The dual fuel kit basically just installs the propane mixer on top of the carb and it certainly restricts airflow compared to what I used to have. I had a 14 inch open element filter on there and the mixer basically uses a 10 inch. After running it for a little while I was having a stumble at lower RPM and traced it to the plugs which were fouled out so I ended up leaning out the idle mixture quite a bit. I think the smaller filter and the restrictions made it much richer.
In any case, now when I go full throttle, the engine is loading up. By that I mean that it downshifts but then the RPM won't rise at all, it just sits there like something is preventing it from spinning. If I back off the throttle to like 95%, the truck accelerates just fine and moves no problem.
I am thinking my needles might be too rich at this point. I have an edelbrock 1406 and I am 1 needle richer than the factory calibration so I was thinking about going back to factory but before I do that, I wanted to check and see if that made sense. If I was running too rich at full throttle would the motor load up like that?
Thanks,
John
