i have a ton of engine/tranny movement in my jimmy.top of shifter moves 6-8" side to side when under load .has new mounts on the engine and tranny.i have a 454/sm465.
im thinking of chaining the engine down like we used to do with drag cars.put chain on both sides of the engine since the movement is worse when in reverse. any body done this? good or bad effects?what did you use, chain, cable straps? thanks

Also had movement since swapping to bbc and used a "torque strap" on drivers side to keep from cutting more unwanted grooves in pass side header.

whipped a$$ motor mounts prob and broken shifter piviot ball on shifter handle.

2 fixes required.

#1 new poly motor AND tranny/tcase mounts. need to be done in set. and with little work you can lift motor up to unbolt and slide out mounts and replace with poly and slide back in so no motor pull required. then jack up the tranny/tcase when unbolted and swap out and bolt back down.

#2 remove shifter when in nutral and check the 2 spot welds for being broken that hold the 1/2 ball for the piviot to the shifter handle its self. vary comon problem and makes 2 times the play and wobble in the shifter.

the motor mounts are new-maby 400 miles if that, shifter is fine.the whole drive train rocks back and forth.it didnt have this issue when it was auto.
any body have pics of how you did yours?

What kind of motor mounts? Cheapy auto parts store? (Anchor brand?) Mine can't have more than 20,000 miles on it and the one mount is already shot.

Urethane is the next stop. Unfortunately depending on setup, you may not be able to buy a set, and the trans mount alone will end up being more than a complete engine/trans mount set for an earlier engine/t-case setup.

stock or stock replacement dosnt fill the shell. poly mounts fill the shell up and make it almost like a solid mount but still flex and absorbe movement.

and those stock rubber tcase tranny mounts have a tone of give in them from all the ones i have seen.

I used a cable strap from a late model ford p.u.:eek1: from the junk yard. It was used to secure the cab to the frame and about 8" long. Bolted it to a spare hole in block on drivers' side to frame and corrected the problem for around 5.00.

yes they are stock replacement mounts. any venders on here that sell a poly set for the engine and tcase?

not that i know of.

i know autozone down hear in the states on east coast has them on the shelf.

but for you up there might need to order them.
