engine noises and questions

Im getting a clanking more like ticking noise (not from exauhst) noise every couple of seconds like there is a small peice of metal being knocked around i know it could be many things. I changed the oil pan gasket and had it completley off didnt see any metal chunks of any kind. please dont tell me that its bearings cause its a new motor with less than 1000 miles. I am also getting some noise from the rockers whats the precedure for adjusting them? its a newer 87 and up engine with carberator and hei non roller.

before i put the cover on it had no slack... it just concerns me and boggles my mind at the same time.

valve hitting piston from rockers not being adjusted right?

They will not hit the piston more than once plus if they were that tight it would miss like h**l dunno if it is the right way or not bring each piston to tdc and spin pushrod if you can not spin the push rod with both valves closed then the rocker is 2 tight good luck and someone that knows more than me will post up
