Whats the ideal temperature for a chevy 350? I have a 91 tbi motor but it has a holley sniper on it and electric fans. Ive read that tbi motors should run at least 195 to make the computer happy and that is about where im at 190-200. But is that the best? How much does temperature affect power and fuel economy?

After 195, not much change in fuel use items. If it will run in the range yours is, that’s perfect

were are you getting your coolant temp info from ? stock or after market gauge or sniper ?.

The snipers sending unit is on the intake near the radiator hose and I also have a mechanical gauge in the drivers side head. They sniper reads 3-5 degrees cooler.

Yeah mine is a couple years old I think. I got it used from a guy I work with. I read that whole thread on the Holley forum. Its sad that they aren't standing behind their products. I agree with you it doesn't matter if it cost $1 or $1000. There is obviously a problem with their part and they should replace it.

Ive only had it for a few months but so far I haven't had any problems. If I do start having problems I'll sell it and get the pro flo 4. That was the original plan, the Holley was just too good a deal to pass.

EDIT: Just realized im not using the Holley cts. I noticed it was missing when I was installing the system. I have which ever one o'rileys has that works with the Holley. I think its an ac delco.

I have a TBI swirl port head engine in my 1991 crew cab, and it has a 190 degree thermostat in it. It runs at 190 degrees pretty steady. My new crate engine only has about 7000 miles on it. I put a lot of effort into making sure the coolant passages in that new engine where as clean as possible. While the new engine was on the engine stand I took a garden hose, and flushed out the passages in the block through the water pump ports with the engine covered in a plastic bag to make sure water did not go where it was not supposed to. Then I laid the engine face down to drain it for a couple of days. You would be surprised how much dust and small metal shavings will come out of even a brand new engine. I then installed a new radiator, heater core, and hoses. I flushed those out with the garden hose then drained those too.
