engine pops

DAC,

Thanks for mentioning the idea of the hood to cowl seal. After I restored my K5 I never thought about putting the seal between the hood and cowl. I just ordered the seal from LMC. I can’t believe that I over looked such a simple fix. What stage is your K5 in? When will you have it on the road? As for the cap on and rotor, I have replaced the cap twice now within the last few years because of moister issues. Let’s hope that after I install the seal that I won’t have to change the cap until my next tune up. Thanks again for all your advice.

Hey Scott,

Glad I have been able to help in a small way. I imagine that just getting that seal in should help a bunch.

My truck isn't going to be a frame off resto or anything, more of a preservation fairly close to stock. Recently got new body mounts in it, got the radiator and the th350 rebuilt. I have to do some work on the t-case (NP 205) then I could put them in and assemble the interior. I bought an 89 Burb to use the engine last summer but have since decided to stick with carburation so I dont have to hack the original wiring harness. I will put the original 350 back in it. Hopefully it will be drivable again this summer, minus body work and paint.---Thanks for asking.

Ok so the hood to cowl seal has finally arrived. Here are some pixs of it. Does anyone have any pixs of this already installed? In the factory manual it looks like I need to install the seal under the cowl so that the lip of the seal buts up to the hood. Thanks

Here is the best I can do for you right now. Remains of the original rubber on the firewall, those "notches line up with the windshield washer squirters on mine. The LMC one looks pretty good. I took pics of the seals in my 2 pickups too but the condition of them are pretty bad so I thought this may be better.

DAC,

Thanks for the pix, I went ahead and installed the seal right under the front of the cowl, just how it is in your pix. It looks like it will catch any water before it hits the cap and rotor. Thanks again for taking the time and getting the pix.

Update: While driving the blazer under 35 mph everything works great. However, as soon as I step on it or start to go up a descent size hill, the motor starts to bog down. Almost like it going to run out of gas. When I rebuilt the carb, I also replaced the fuel filter. Should I hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel going into the carb and see what kind of pressure I have? Or does this still sound like a carb problem floats? Thanks. Guys.
