Engine problems

This is a different problem, my moms 98 suburban is eating up anti-freeze. About every 4days we have to top off the radiator. it is not leaking anywhere i can see, all hoses are fine, things of that nature. I am guessing that the head gasket is leaking, and the anti freeze is ending up inside the oil. This is a 350, with 130,000 on it. Any help would be awesome!

Pull the oil dipstick and see if the oil on the stick looks like chocolate milk. If so then your guess is right.

If coolant was mixing with the oil your oil would look milky when you pull out the dipstick. Whats probably happening is when the coolant leaks out it is leaking in a high heat area (Engine, Radiator) essentially evaporating before you can track it down. The best way to check for this kind of leak is to pressurize the cooling system with a pressure tester. You can rent one at any Autozone in your area. Make sure the engine is off when using the tester and try and test the engine cold. If the pressure tester does not show a leak check or replace the Radiator Cap.

ah great i totally forgot about pressure testers, and no chocolate milk in the engine, good signs already. thanks guys

It could also be the heater hose quick disconnect on the intake manifold, 2 of my friends w/ the vortec 350s have had problems with those. If it is leaking, when you try to take out the old fitting, Ill guarantee you it is going to snap off and you will have to invent new ways to get it out lol, its always fun

Possible leak into intake manifold? Also, did GM have problems with intake manifold gaskets and Dexcool in the late 90's?
