[/ QUOTE ] no not wrong!!!!! nothing falls out! the rod just slides down! he is better off not locking the fuel pump pushrod in place with a bolt cause if he needs to turn the engine over in order to take it out of the truck or rotate it to remove something it could damage the cam or fuel pump pushrod or both! think about it! /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

Okay, I will look into getting a longer chain. Should I get a chain that is rated (grade 5 or 8) or can I just get some from a place like Canadian tire? (it's like a everything you need type of store, autoparts, gardening stuff, tools, cookware, lighting, etc) If I need a graded chain, what type should I get? Any certain length?

anyone???? Looks like I may not beable to do this until next weekend then. Unless I have a good day at school with no homework /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

A chain with 1/4 inch links is good for lifting the engine alone,if you lift the motor, tranny and transfer case as a unit I would get some 3/8 chain--regular "proof coil" chain is good enough, but if you can get the better grades it wont hurt anything but your wallet!--just remember chains dont like shock loads, lift steady and avoid letting any weight drop suddenly when you let the crane down.
If you are leaving everything bolted together (I would if your not dismantling the motor for a rebuild)you can use a foot or so long peice of 4x4 post bolted to the motor mount plates that bolt to the block as "legs" to hold the motor up off the ground,so you wont squash the oilpan--use the original thru bolts that held the motor in to attach the 4x4 legs-one more on the "foot" that mounts the transfer case adapter to the crossmemer. You can nail a 2x4 across the 2 legs to help keep them from being wobbly or spreading apart.I'd leave all the oil in everything,to prevent condensation from rusting the internal parts, and it would not be a bad idea to spin the motor and transfer case over once in a while to keep things oiled--just change all the fluids later when you re-assemble it.Have fun!. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Alright thanks. I will probably pick up a few feet of chain tomorrow. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I will just take the engine apart from the tranny. Just so I can move them around easier. I don't know if I should get an engine stand or not. I think I will either use the 4x4 wood idea, or an old tire so I don't squish the oilpan. Thanks
