I just picked up an 89' 350 for free. I have a set of heads to fit my 73' block on order, will the heads for my 73' fit the 89' block? All the info I can find says different between 86-older and 87-newer, but 87-newer gen 1 heads fit older blocks, some hoping it works the other way as well. :D

Yes the 73 heads will work on the 89 block. The 1986-earlier has perimeter valve cover hold down and the 1987-later have centerbolt hold down. The 1987-later also had the four center intake bolt holes at a different angle than the 1986-earlier. Just put the 73 heads on the 89 block and use the 73 intake manifold otherwise if you use the 89 intake you'll have to modify the four center intake bolt holes to bolt onto the early heads.

Sweet! That makes my day :D

To highjack my own thread... 4x4, you build some pretty decent motors correct? Will a stock 2 bolt 89" short block be ok with RH 180 heads, edelbrock performer EPS, 650 carb and comp cams CS X4 262H-1, flowing through headman header into a 2 1/2 exhaust? Will be hooked up to a TH400 and all the necessary parts from there to the ground.
