I will try to explain my problem as best i can...

I have an 87 K5 it has the 350 and EFI first it seem to loose power a bit then shortly after the engine died. I managed to limp it home by vigorously pumping the gas pedal with the motor surging sort of, it ran like it was getting just a splash of gas then almost die and get a splash of gas again while the whole time i am have to vigorously pump the pedal.
It will start but dies instantly unless you the vigorous pedal pumping.

Anyone have ideas on what the problem could be?

check fuel pressure

This. You'll need to get the pressure gauge and then the little adapter to hook in-line since there's no schrader valves on these fuel lines.

But those are classic signs of a bad fuel pump or torn rubber hose on the discharge of the pump (in the tank).

I recently had a situation where a ground cable that was moving around got exposed to enough heat to melt a small section of the insulation. As the wire was bouncing around it would randomly hit the frame and shut the fuel pump off.

Thanks for the replies!

Fuel pump is my thought also. i was just hoping since i can get it to run somewhat that it would be something else.

The only other thing that comes to mind is one heck of a vacuum leak, but you should hear an audible whistle if that's the case. But I would side with most likely a fuel pump.

I have never really heard a surging idle with the TBI setup, it usually raises the idle up higher when it does. I know the carb'd engines will surge though.

Just my experience though.
