Hey guys So I have a 1980 Chevy Scottsdale K10 and it is completely stock excluding the Block redneck lift and the 35x12.5 on it but my question I want to know is that I recently pulled my 350 engine out of it due to a Piston Knock and wanted to know what I would have to change if I wanted to do a 454 swap? Do I need to change my Transfer Case, Transmission, front/rear driveshafts, or my front/rear differentials.... My rear diff is a 12 bolt diff and my front is a 10 bolt. I just recently popped open my rear diff and did the gasket the gears looked actually amazing for it being a 1980. So if someone who has knowledge of this could please get back at me I would greatly appreciate it.... :thumb:

BTW I think I have a np203 T/C and a TH400 Tranny.... But I am not exactly sure.... Thanks again

i have never done the swap but with the correct motor mounts i don't think you will need to chance driveshaft lenghts the main thing is you will have to change your exhaust and radiator/fan shroud issues and i am not sure about your front drive stuff don't know what all your running your trans and tcase will work i don't know how well your diffs will like big block power good luck

Im pretty sure a TH400 will bolt right up to a big block... Idk what has to be changed as far as engine mounts and if the block difference would mean you have to move them forward to hook to the tranny, But I think if you got the tranny hooked to it the rest of the driveline shouldnt have to be touched, well till the big block blows it all up, but I would say that all comes down to how mean your right foot is to that skinny pedal:thumb:

And isnt the 203 the all time 4wd one? Or am I mistaken? I wouldnt want that.

Ok so I'm pretty sure its not a np203.... Cause I have a 4wd selector... So I'm not quite sure what it is.... I don't know to much about my stuff on the undercarriage I'm kinda new at this....

yea 203 is fulltime but there are ways around that i was going to go big block but i already had too much money in my exhaust and i have a heavy right foot i break too much as it is

The 400 bolts right up and you will need all.accessory brackets also. A bigger radiator, shroud and rad hoses.
The engine frame moustache will work and I'm pretty sure the clamshell will work also, and like above new exhaust

Well it may be a np208, see the little circular tag on mine? It says 208 on it, you should have a tag somewhere on their, prolly got lots of gunk on it. Other wise the other option is a 205, which is gear and not chain driven and seems to be the strongest and most wanted TC.

Well thats sweet, I want that setup:thumb: I know a 465 is really strong but idk about its applications as far as engine and tc.

I have no idea about bolting a BBC to it. What all trannys hook up to bbc and sbc???

By the way, buy the membership, you truly wont regret it and you will know everything you could ever want to know about your truck at the click of the mouse:thumb:

Oh yeah come payday I will buy the membership cause I have this great feeling I am going to be on this form alot asking so good questions.... So the 465 is a good Tranny? And I am assuming that the TC is a 205

Ive heard its a very strong tranny, I dont think they are good for fast shifting as far as high speed wheeling goes, but you shouldnt have to worry about rebuilding your tranny, just the clutch. And I know the 205 is the TC that everyone tries to get because they are gear driven and not chain driven which makes them much stronger.

And yah man you wont regret the membership, i would have messed up so much on my truck if I didnt have this site lol. On the other hand without the guys pushing me to do this and that my truck would still have the 305 in it lol.

Yup i beleive thats a 205.

Get ready in 3...2....1.... for people to smash you on the block lift and exhaust:rolleyes: (I know this from experiance lol)

Lol the great thing is Everything that is on it or in it Yup I bought it that way... lol I want to redo the suspension and exhaust... BTW There is no engine in it right now... We pulled it cause it had a piston knock. Ill have to post a body shot.....

Gm is great like that BBC & SBC = interchangable tranny bellhousings.

So..... If it bolts to a SBC it will bolt to a 6.2 and a BBC

Their we go, thats what I was thinking but I didnt want to give false info. Ok man you got the tranny and the big TC, now throw that 454 in their:thumb: You can put the bigger rear end in after you blow the 12 bolt up!!

The 205 you can identify easily by that small round 3 bolt cover in the middle of the backside.

Blocks in the rear are not terrible. I don't care what anyone says about it. On the other hand Blocks in the front are pure death.

I don't mind the blocks in the rear other then the ruff ride the front is a shackle flip which ain't bad... But I'm pretty stocked that a 454 will mount to what I got... Next will be a 1ton front nd rear axles
