I finally found an engine for the right price to swap in to my K5. My buddy has an 89 Chevy G20 van with a TBI 5.7 in it and I am getting it for a great price! I ran it and drove it around and it runs smooth with no leaks. I have never done an engine swap before though and I dont have the tools so I will be looking for a job in a shop or seeking out someone to help me out around here.

Ill obviously have to use the computer and all that. Is there anything else I should know? I know ill have to run a return fuel line as well, should I look for a new tank or can I somehow run a return to my existing tank? Thanks!

You will need a TBI fuel pump which I believe will fit in your current fuel tank.

Make sure you get all of the engine wiring from the van.

If you have the $$ I would go ahead and put in poly motor and trans mounts.

Cool, should i use the fuel pump or just go external? I am taking the whole van so I will have all the wiring I should need! Man I am excited to go FI! :]

I am not a big fan of external fuel pumps.

I would go ahead and replace that fuel pump too (because its a crappy thing to have fail on you).

Looks like Scott and I will be the only carb guys in the Colorado Crew soon :doah:

Someday...

I thought it would be a long time before I converted but this deal kind of fell in my lap. Oh yea, will my tranny bolt right up? The van has a 700r4 as well but its 2wd.

The bellhousing bolt pattern will be the same so it'll bolt right up.

The trans should bolt up. IMO, put a new water pump on it as well since it is out. Keep us posted.

And Chris, Scott is going FI....

Ok what kind of water pump? Just go with GM stuff? Uh oh Chris is going to be the only one :doah:

Anybody know of anyone in Durango that could help me with this? I dont have a hoist or nice dry place to work.

Everyone has a preference on pumps. I have a pile of unused parts I pick from.

Dealer parts are more expensive, I usually have good luck with Carquest parts

Well the dude I work with is a POS! He came in today and told me he sold the van out from under me because the dude had the cash on him, even though I told him I would give him the cash on Tuesday! What a dick!!! So now I am still with Chris running carbd! Man I am so pissed off, I am going to quit next time I work with him so I can screw him over!

Man, it is just my luck that some crap like this would happen! No buying lottery tickets for me or I might go bankrupt and the house could burn down!

When your having a crap day is the best time to buy a lotto ticket, cause you are already losing!

Hopefully I find the next one soon I am tired of carb especially since moving to Durango.

I just dont really get the performance out of the engine and wheeling with that carb blows. If i dont go FI I will switch to a Quad soon
