We're weighing costs and options to decide the best course of action for my son's 87 Blazer. We've found an 86 Blazer that needs an engine. That's the one thing (along with trans) that is good in my son's 87. Everything else looks decent on the 86 (better than just about everything on the 87) so it could be cheaper in the long run to swap engines rather than trying to fix everything that needs to be repaired/replaced on the 87. Is this a viable option? (i.e., are there unexpected issues like carb vs tbi that I would have to deal with)

Well, first off, you'd be insane NOT to transfer the EFI to the '86. :)

You'd have to look at the '87 fuel lines, I *think* those are different on the K5's between '86-87.

You'd want to swap the entire wiring harness over as well.

Carb swap may be easier, but it's not nearly as nice as TBI. Since you'd have both rigs, the swap would pretty much be a no-brainer...you'd have all the parts necessary already on hand.

x2 on swapping the TBI over to the 86. Having both trucks side by side would be the way to do it. You will have to swap tanks and fuel lines too but that's no big deal.
