I have a inferred laser temp reader… where would be an accurate place to take reading on the engine temp? I figured right on the side of block where the temp sending unit is screwed in? Or at the bottom on the water neck on Manifold. Want to confirm my gauge in the truck is correct.

I'd say either of those locations seem like a good choice, but no matter where I would have guess they'd be off a bit from the gauge and each other. I'd just shoot a bunch of areas and make an educated guess.

Shoot it on the driverside of the block, next to the sensor for the dash gauge. That will give you a reading of what the gauge is reading. I always install a elec gauge on the intake so I have two inside the truck, it seems the factory gauge always read hotter than it really was. When they both say hot, its hot. Problem solved in my case anyways.
Yes, I noticed that today… I took some readings at the bottom of the water neck on intake manifold… temp was about 15 degrees cooler than when I did it from the side of block. The block temp sender is right above the exhaust manifold….so I’m sure it will always read higher.
yup, we check ton's of motor's in the boats, in various locations for different reasons, but for eng coolant temp, the most consistent place will be the intake right below the therm...
