I have an 85 blazer with a 94 350 tbi (about 150,000 miles on motor now) and Bowtie Overdrives built 700r4 tranny...to make a long story short ,my tranny goes out so i take it to the place that built the tranny about 10 years ago for a new tranny ,and i get new tranny....
NOW here is my problem...
The tranny shop tells me the tranny was blown by having about .050 crankshaft endplay which in turn broke the pump on tranny by the converter not engaging the pump enough...so they placed shims (spacers)between the converter and the flex plate which he said will help some by engaging the converter further in the pump, but still having that much excessive endplay was bad...
So question 1...now that converter was shimmed to make up for excessive play am i hurting anything by driving it ??....is .050 Crankshaft endplay really that bad to worry about driving it ?
Question 2...can the excessive crankshaft play be fixed without pulling motor ?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for any help or advice on this matter

I don't know numbers as far as end play in the main bearings but I know you can replace the bearings with the engine in place.
Now we shall wait to see if the .05 is that bad or not.

Way to much end play if that is true the crank is more than likely worn out on the thrust surface of the crank is also wornout. I have only seen this on trucks with standards that were used in the oil field down here and trucks with autos that had balloned torque convertors. With that much endplay it acts like a saw on the lugs that the torque convertor engage into in the pump.
