engine / tranny noise

I have an 85 with the 305 and the 700R4 tranny. I can hear an intermittent rattling/grinding noise, and when I go under the truck it sounds like its coming from the flywheel/torque converter area. It is hard to hear in park, but in reverse it's pretty noticeable. Any suggestions?

Check the flexplate to converter bolts, flexplate to crank bolts, and finally, the entire flexplate itself. Usually under heavy load (like starting up an incline from a stop) you will hear a cracked flexplate.
