Could I run my engine without the transmission? I'd have the flyweel on of course but i don't have the right bellhousing and I want to run my 440.

would it be O.K. to break in the cam at about 2,000rpm?

nothing wrong with breaking in a cam without the trans there. Many people fab engine stands with gauges to break in motors. Sooner or later I will build one... if nothing else just cause its cool to have a motor sitting in the middle of the shop with no car, rumbling away.

I once fired up an Olds 455 on a pallet for a few minutes so the potential buyer could hear it. Hooked up some short pipes and mufflers...but no tranny or anything else.

Being 18 at the time I couldn't resist blipping the throttle...and the damn thing almost went over on it's side.

we run em all the time at work on engine cradles... nice thing is no radiator for marine gigs.. run a garden hose to the raw pump and let her rip. :D

yep, what they said. in fact, when i bought my tranny, the instructions say to keep the torque converter unbolted from the flywheel if you need to break in the cam. this was because you need to put the motor under load to test fluid pressure in trans. i wouldnt be worried about it.

if your running it inside the truck,i would fab something to bolt to the back of the motor(bellhousing boltholes) i dont think an engine will balance on the motormounts alone.

i was thinking i'd just prop the rear of the engine up.

Yeah I hate it, along with all dodges. If i win the lottery im going to buy rare dodges and beat them with a bat.

yes, hell you can run an engine sitting on the gorund if you hook up a battery and gas can, i do it all th time lol

hell i started a 350 up hanging on engine hoist last month,

i started a caddy 425 up laying out in the driveway out here, its easy

doesnt hurt a thing

good luck
