okay so i replaced my starter the other day and everything was fine in my 87 suburban. the new starter works great but im noticing some problems that i have had since i put it in. ok so first of all my battery setup is pretty sketchy. my positive wire is connected by a ghetto rigged clamp i made on the positive post. it wouldnt start up today so i had to go out there and move it to make it start. it sparked like crazy but started up. im going to get proper clamps tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem. anyways when i turn the key off, all the electricals die inside the truck but the engine keeps running and i have to pull the ECM fuse to kill the truck.... any idea why this is happening? also i took my truck offroad a little bit tonight and ran it pretty hard and the "service engine soon" light came on and it feels like i lost some power and the engine started lurching a little bit. ive got a hollister trip coming up this weekend and want everything to be ok before i leave. any ideas why this stuff is happening? im gonna try a few things and see if they work but any help is always appreciated

I'd say your alternator is hooked up wrong. That or the ignition switch. Its not cutting power from the alternator to the motor.

is that the little black wire? i thought that was the ground. or the big fat insulated wire? theres those 2 ignition wires that i hooked up to the fat post on the starter and then i put the fat insulated wire on there too. and i hooked up the black wire to one of the smaller posts. the starter worked fine after i put it in though, it was only after it failed to start and i had to mess arouind with the positive connection on my battery to get it to start, that it wouldnt die.
