Same splices we use for repairs on our aircraft, but we use the crimpers where you place the splice into the hole and 4 teeth crimp it 90* apart from eachother.

I'm guessing you are talking about DMC crimpers, something like the M22520/1.

If so, I've never seen them used with a Raychem. Is this a Part 91 aircraft? I'm sure it works, but when working Part 121 & 145 I've got to use what CH20 says.

I know Aircraft Spruce has them, but you can probably get them for less if you search around for surplus. Look for D-436-(xx) as a part number. The (xx) is the size: 36, 37, or 38. Red, D-436-36 is for 20-26 ga. Blue, D-436-37 is for 20-16 ga. Yellow, D-436-38 is for 16-12 ga.

I bought my crimpers on E-bay. Look for "Raychem AD-1337". Patience is your friend here. I've seen them go for as much as $200 or as little as $50. In pinch you could also use the Chanel-Lock crimper/wire cutter from Lowes. They work on the blue and yellow, but you will not get the same quality crimp. The truth is if you are going to spend the money on these you might as well get the right crimpers.

Yeah that part # for the crimpers sounds right.

Not sure what Part 91 is, but I've used those connectors on all models of F-18's. A-G model which is all I have ever worked on.

It's short for CFR14, Part91: General Aviation. Those guys get away with murder.

I didn't realize you were working military stuff. I fondly remember those days, so much less restrictive. The FAA can be a bitch when you are working on commercial aircraft.
