Iowa has 10% ethenol and it is cheaper than straight gasoline.
I have been using it since day one when it came to iowa. At first some cars mostly dodge had problems with floats in carburators made of a kind of foam and ethanol ate up the foam floats and some gaskets. If I remember right that was fixed by the auto manufactors in the next year or two.
We have used it always, in all our vehicles, except on the hot days when over 100 dgrees it may vapor lock easier than straight gas (I think alchohol expands more than gas under heat) and then we just put in a tank of straight gas and some summers we run all ethanol all summer.
Harm on emgine, have not seen any yet
1983 305 stock engine (one carb kit) Caprice wagon 161,000 miles and still going today
1979 G20 350 with holley (one rebuild engine) 219,000 miles and speedometer quit 1 1/2 year ago.
1991 G30 stock 350 82,000 miles
1990 G30 stock 350 88,000 miles
1979 C3500 454 120,000 miles
1996 K1500 Suburban 108,000 miles
1987 K5 only put about 10 mile on it yet
Hot Rods BelAir Impala Camaro Corvette Chevelle with motors prior 1972 and We have not had any problems with ethanol that I know of. These cars get drivien little only in summer and some more. Some of these have the original carb and some have the newer holly carbs
I also think and see that it keep the inside of the carburator and Throutle body cleaner.
Used ethanol since it came here i think in about 1980.????
I also think that I have less freeze up gas line problems than before ethanol with the alchohol in the gas.
If some one was to start using ethanol gas I would say that yes there is a very good chance that you are going to start to have problems. I feel the acholhol cleans the fuel system as it runs through and the first month of use of ethanol will lossen up particles and give you problems. So replace the filter often at first and expect carb kit down the road.
We have not seen any problems from it yet.
