Exhaust help...

Well my Z71 needs a new exhaust... I was thinking about going with flowmasters... but i am also want to try something new... what do yall think about Magnaflow?

I just heard a Magnaflow on a Jeep YJ with a ford 302 in it last weekend. Sounded great. Had a good tone during normal driving and when he got on it, it sounded real good but not obnoxiously loud. It was a dual inlet/single outlet.

I like Magnaflows. Not quiet. Sound similar to a cherry bomb if you get their straight through usual setup. The stainless steel is nice and for the price of a SS Magnaflow you can usually get a plain Flowmaster...

I may be running a Flowmaster soon but that's just because I got a deal and it's better than what I have now. If I was spending the coin on new it'd probably be a Magnaflow or Borla. Buy quality, not name.

I have a Aerochamber on both of my trucks.


Sounds good in the upper RPMs not loud at all on the highway, plus my Z71 has a cutout infront of the muffler if I want some more sound.

I was going to mention the Hooker mufflers as well, Flowmasters are getting so played out on vehicles lately, IMO,,,

I ran a Hooker Aerochamber on a Camaro i had several years back, nice mellow tone while idling, opened up some when hard on the throttle, but not too obnoxiously loud. Was a real nice sounding muffler.

I just recently hear a Gibson muffler on an uncles truck, that thing sounds REAL nice, too bad they are so expensive.

I just had Magnaflow muffs put on. My setup is headers, no cats, dual 2.5 pipes, dual 4x9 oval s/s muffs, to dual 2.5 pipes all the way back and out the sides. These muffs : http://www.jegs.com/i/Magnaflow/642/11216/10002/-1?parentProductId=751042
At idle very quiet, at highway cruise it has a decent rumble but not too loud. At hard throttle its sets off car alarms, I like the sound but its too loud. In town I have to baby the gas to not attract the wrong attention. Probably going to something quieter. Maybe Flowmaster 70 's.

All magnaflows are SS, and straight thru- their sound is no where close to cherry bomb. Magnaflow will be a nice smooth deep tone, usually no popping or crackling. Cherry bombs all crackle and pop.


IDK what year your truck is- On my 98 OBS I run a 4x9 dual in dual out with tru-x crossover inside. Sounds great. If you have a newer one and depending on what your do, with tru-duals I would run a 5x8-18 with a tru-x to maintain a cleaner sound. Two muffler just rot out quicker and cost more- plus on these newer trucks you with notice a power difference. Flowmaster I would run a super 50 series/SUV muffler- They sound good on those setups.

Uhm...Cherry Bombs are straight through. A Magnaflow is just basically a very well made and fancy Cherry Bomb. Hollow, louvered pipe going straight (or angled but not baffled) through a matt packed round case.

I just put a dynomax catback kit on my 2500hd and its a real nice fit, all stainless tubing, real nice smooth bends and sounds awesome, also exits where the stock pipe did. I had flowmasters, single and dual, the magnaflows were too much money, the dynomax by far sounds the best, i couldnt believe it myself.

I'm running dual 2.5 back to a dual in/out flowmaster 70 long case and even that mofo sets off alarms rolling through parking lots. That's just at idle too. But it's really quiet around 1800 rpm. And it has a nice sound at high rpm's. It doesn't get obnoxiously loud like the 40's do. I hated my 40's. They were loud ALL the time. Not a DD muffler unless you have cats on your truck. The 70 doesn't have that stupid "hey look at my big redneck looking truck" sound to it. It's a respectable sound.

I used to run a Magnaflow on my 95 Z71 I use to have in Vegas. Sounded great. It was a complete cat-back system.

Yeah the cherry bomb glasspacks are, but their casing VERY little packing wrapped around the core. Plus it only utilizes fiberglass packing which burns out very quickly and leaves you with a splatty popping sound.
Magnaflows have larger casings. Usually an oval shell with steel wool wrapped around the center core, and then the casing is packed full of high temp mat. So it has minimal burn out, but enhanced sound absorption. Therefore giving a smooth deep tone, very little to no popping or splatting.

Which makes it a very well made Cherry Bomb.

It's not going to sound like our v8s, but here's my 4.3 s10 w/ 50series Flow <2.5> single. The video was more to show the sound of my new Y pipe to other s10 owners. It had some stupid 1.5" piping and pre-cat. Now it's 2.25", no pre-cat, going into 2.5, and an over axle dump. My blazer will be getting a 3" 50 series. I like it cause it's quiet while cruising. The 40 is too loud, and a before the axle dump is annoying sounding.

(I'm thinking of buying a set of these for my rig...)
