Guys
I'm saving my pennies to replace the exhaust 91 K5. Currently it's exiting out the driver side rear Quater (stock). If I stick with single exhaust is that the best exit location in regards to fumes entering the back (open) window?
Truck has rear air deflector on topper if that makes a difference.
Thanks!

That's the best location, if you go out the back you will have fumes come in the back window.

Don't make it too short either. I get fumes in my rear window w/ single exhaust exiting from stock location - it is about an inch too short.

Don't forget the catalytic converter. Running properly you shouldn't smell too much anyway, but a catalytic converter cleans up a lot too. Modern ones are not a hindrance to flow compared to what the trucks came with originally, so other than cost, no downside to running one.

Define, too short. This is where mine sits now.

My aftermarket cat is all broken up (rattle rattle). One of the reasons I'm going to have it replaced. Also one of the reasons for the stink no doubt.

glad I have a 'burb. I still haven't got the tailgate window replaced. Whenever I get exhaust I can open the rear windows to maintain clean air. My exhaust exits out the rear even with the bumper (true dual exhaust w/ cc's in place). I drove all last winter with just a sheet of plastic back there, stayed warm as toast.

And if you are getting the rotten egg/ Sulphur smell it's the cats.

I'm going to guess on this because mine was this way, I didn't have flaps either, clean air is the main thing, the tip should not be "shrouded" by the tire or anything else, you don't have to get crazy but it should clear it some. Again this is an assumption because mine had a new cat on it as well.

The way that exits is pretty similar in location to OEM.

However, GM took the time (at least on some exhaust, I had 6.2L exhaust from 1985 nad it was this way) to cut an angle on the lower ~2/3 of the outlet of the pipe. I *assume* that was to help the exhaust go downwards as well as outwards.

You can sort of see it here:
