exhaust manifold heat shield necessary?

Fan spins freely and not hitting the shroud ar or anything. I'll remove all the belts and run it for a few seconds to see if the sound stops then go from there putting them back on one by one. Would a bad bearring on a pully make this sound?

A bad bearing would be more of a growl type sound, more constant then the kind of flapping sound you have.

You know that was going to be my next post. Those veins inside of those things are plastic if i remember,i tore one apart to check it out. Glad you got it figured out.

NOt sure what to do with the hoses/valve thingie (heat riser) that comes off the the back of the pump also the wired plug that comes off the valve. Want to scrap it all if not needed. Will it throw a SES code?

If you want heat shields let me know. I have some sitting in the garage off my 93 5.7 TBI motor. I was planning on taking the manifolds to the scrap yard anyway since the bolt holes don't line up and I couldn't stretch the manifold to fit.

I had a manifold that refused to bolt up too, that I got from the junkyard..weird it came right off the other engine, but the bolt holes were 1/4 hole off on the end ones when I tried bolting it up to mine...

I made it fit by putting it in my wood stove on the red hot coals for about 10 minutes and used my welding gloves to hold onto it long enough to get the center bolts in it--the outer bolts screwed right in after that too...:D
