You guys use gaskets on your exhaust manifolds? Getting ready to slap them back on a different block and dont want leaks. When I took them off the old block there were no gaskets, but wondering if I should put them on since they are going on a different block than they were originally mated with.

Thats what I figured...I just wonder why they didnt have any on them in the first place /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Do most engines come with gaskets on the exhaust manifolds? I've always had headers /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I've wondered the same thing... the factory installs them without gaskets... They don't leak then... why install them later? Hell, I dunno. Just always wondered that myself.

Regardless, I DO install them on every set of manifold/headers I've installed to date...

When the factory installs them, the manifolds have never seen any heat and are dead flat, so they seal. After the manifold has seen heat it will never be true again unless machined flat...so you need a gasket.

I think the factory is able to machine the manifolds and the heads to such tight tolerances that the gaskets aren't needed. I always use them myself, cheap insurance /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
