I have a flowmaster setup thats a couple years old. Has that rusty look to it. Soon I'll be painting my new axles and most of the under carriage with por 15. Can I use the marine clean and acid etch on the mufflers and pipe then cover it with the VHT (very high temp) rattle can stuff for headers? Any tips?

obviously stainless would be ideal, but too much $$$

I had great luck with the VHT flame proof paint, allegedly good to 1500 F. Sandblasted a set of headers, gave em two quick coats of the VHT in a rattle can and three years later they were still silver.

when you paint them start and run your motor till it heats up a bit (just starting to smoke) then shut it down to cool for another few mins and repeat, this bakes it on without burning it off. I've painted headers white, silver, and black and they stay nice a long time.
