i ws wondering if any one else on here had hedman headers or any other full length headers and how they ran there exhaust and what size, right now i have full lenght headman headers and dual 2in exhaust, i wanna run atleast 2 1/2 or 3 but my header exits about 6inchs before my transfer case cross member so its right in the way, my 2in bends up and over it but anything bigger im not sure i could unless maybe bend under it but, im trying to avoid flex piping so any suggestions are welcome, thanks

On my 86 I'm running full length headers, and 2" that goes up and over the crossmember. Unless you are putting out tons of hp, you should stick with 2. 2 1/2 or 3 will probably not be enough back pressure.

I have the Hedman headers and have 2 1/2" duals and it goes over the crossmember I'd be glad to snap a pic if you would like to see.

yeah dude if its not a problem and u dont mind, i was thinking i could probably od it just wasnt sure if there was a better way, i like the deeper sound of bigger piping, have a 2000 silverado with just cats and true dual 3in and sounds amazing, way deeper and meaner then my k5 and the k5 has a semi built engine and headers

I have headmans on my 83 stepside with a 358 and i ran all 3 inch, i had mandrel bent pipes to come out of the ball flange then 2 inches straight, then straight up, and then back with pipe following the frame to flowmaster super 44s all 3inch pipe (through the crossmember like you said). The exhaust i bent on a 35 angled down behind the bumper and its loud as hell lol..... Ill dig up a quick video....

2 1/2 inch pipe should probably be the max size. People don't take into account the many areas to consider when building an exhaust system. 3" duals is not even rec. until you reach 500+ HP. Flowmaster and Magnaflow both make it a point. You have to consider the exiting diameter of the pipe, and the external atmospheric pressure it must overcome, 21 psi. With smaller pipe what you loose in volume you gain in velocity. The bigger the pipe the less velocity, plus it makes it engine to work harder to scavenge the cylinders.

Take into account a motorcycle. I had a 750 that had 1.5" duals on it, with 3" mufflers on them. I wanted it louder, so I removed the baffles, afterwards I lost almost all low-end torque. Same thing on a different scale.

The newer chevy trucks do have 2 3/4" dual pipes going into the muffler, but if you cut that muffler off and apart. It reduces it down to 2 1/4" into the muffler with a single 2 1/4" outlet, bumped up to a 3.5" tail. It maintained the volume, and gained the velocity like a venturi in a carb. BTW the ones that look like a dual outlet are a single outlet on those trucks. The pipe closest to the driveshaft is just an inlet to a resonator chamber on the back side of the muffler.

i understand how it works and notice a huge diff when my cats are on rather then off i get a lot of low end back, right now though its stright pipe 2in thats about 2ft ong on each side. im sure stright pipe 3inch ran all the way to the axle and then dumped, might put some sort of muffler on it, it will be better or = what i got now

Heres a youtube video, its not much but it will give you a good idea. Super 44s, headman 1 5/8 flow tubes with 3in collectors , 453 dynoed hp 350 .040 over and all 3inch pipe.........

ight cool thanks, and that **** sounds awesome, im hoping to get a cam in mine soon but got other things that come first, nice job on everything, really liked the dash display also

As much as i remember...lol....its a comp cams(solid) 515 lift...thats all i remember, ill have to dig up the cam card to know for sure...It has bowtie heads with 2.055 valves, comp 1.6 roller rockers, eagle crank/rods, rpm airgap intake, mallory unilite, and alot more...I can roll in 3rd gear about 35 and burn the 39s...lol....i dont do that anymore tho the ujoints dont like it...
