So I put on headers, mufflers and made me some dual exhaust a couple of years ago. I never have felt good about where the pipes end though. They're 90 degree pipes that end back behind the spring shackles and I've always been worried about smashing them or having them get caught on something and destroying my headers. I drag them all the time and nothing bad has happened yet, but I want to fix them up now just to make sure.

I can't remember where the tailpipe exited when the stock single exhaust was still on the truck, but it seems like it came out ahead of the shackle, just behind the tire. This would seem to make it less likely to get snagged, but I wonder if the springs contact the tail pipe when they cycle and cause damage.

Where do most of you have your tailpipes at? Why do you have them where you do?

My stock tailpipe exits behind the left rear wheel under the shackle. I hate it, way too low and vulnerable. This is with stock suspension.
If I were to do a shackle flip or something I will have to reconfigure the exhaust.

That's about how mine is now except it doesn't stick out as far. I don't have any pics.

I had the factory dual pipes coming out behind the left rear tire when i got mine.
After the 4" I ran Summit headers, dual flowmasters and chrome tipped 90's out the sides tucked in real nice under the rear bumper. You can just barely see them in the pic.

The reason most guys run them out the sides is to cut down on exhaust fumes coming in when you have the back window down. It doesn't eliminate it entirely but its better than running them straight out the back.
