I am looking for a custom exhaust for my 1983 Jeep CJ 7 with a Chevy 305 with Edelbrock Performer Manifold, Edelbrock Performer Carb and Headman Headers.

I am looking for a decent exhaust that sounds good but is not obnoxious. I am not sure if I want a dual or single and understand because it will run a low RPM some exhausts may be louder. Also, I don't like the popping sound, I like lower rumble but for a convertible.

What are your suggestions?

Thanks,

Matt

Run 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 duals with catco cats and dynamax mufflers. This is what im running with full length headers and it sounds good when I want it to and quiet when I need it to.

without the cats your going to get raspy. I like flowmasters but they are just too loud for my style any more.

Truthfully, I would make a custom y-pipe and run a single 2.5 inch exhaust. Those things have like no room for duals and mufflers, unless you are running sidepipes w/ glasspacks. I always thought those sound good for a 340 and headers.

I had a fuel injected AMC 304 V8 in my 81 CJ-5. I ran stock manifolds to a y-pipe and a single 2.5 in pipe to a turbo muffler,(cheap 50series), all the way out the back. Sounded great with a nice low mellow rumble until you nailed the throttle. Sounded really good. A local shop bent up all the pipe and I supplied the muffler. I think I only paid $150.00-$175.00 for everything.
