out the back or behind the tires?
Where for least fumes as will be topless most of the time.
I assume out the side, behind rear tires better for off-road?

Be kind guys- I'm new to this

I did mine straight out the back.....but I'm going to have them going toward the corners of the truck (under the lights ) \ /........kinda like that. I believe it's best to keep it like it was stock.

I run a single 3" straight out the back. I made the tip turn down and made it removeable by welding on 3 bolt flanges. That way I can remove the tip before going to a more difficult trail. I don't get exhaust smell with this configuration even though the '86 K10 is pre-computer / FI and it does have exhaust odor.

Out the side if you don't want to smell the exhaust fumes. It is illegal to have the exhaust exit the rear of any vehicle which has a passenger compartment that has a rear window that rolls downs. The reason is exactly which i just described, to keep exhaust fumes away from the passenger compartment. Now this may be only a California law but i have looked it up before. Also if you look at any vehicle that is stock and look at where the exhaust exits they will all be out the back if there is a rear window that goes down.

Mine run out the back and I cant really put the rear window down. Im sure open top wont matter much. I went with the most direct route.

You can see the pipes beside the gas tank, the D rings cover part of the end, but its not been an issue.

I've ran pretty much all the configurations like straight out the back, turndowns in front of the rear end, and out the sides. Definately go out the sides IMO. I thought i'd die with it going straight out the back with the window down :doah:

Back when I had my K5 it had duals going straight out the back, when i had the window down i also thought i was gonna die.

What do you guys think of dumping it before the rearend? Thinking of doing this on my truck.

It' legal in Maine but it's a catch 22 in most states. The Exhaust is suppose to exit behind any window that opens. But that is not possible on a blazer/bronco.

I have that on my Blazer now. If you dump it and turn the turndowns towards the frame it helps. Just turning it down doesn't really help. Does that make sense? :haha:

i have mine ran down the frame around the sides of the gas tank with a little turn down and out small 2 inches long maybe back by the hitch mounting area. i like it quite and no fumes.cant see the exhaust from the back either i like that aspect also

I just finished redoing my exhaust and up until this point I've had it dumping in from of the rear axle. I didn't have any trouble with fumes, I even drove around with a carbon-monoxide detector and it never alarmed. It also seemed to keep the exhaust out of the rear window.

The only thing I'll say about dumping before the rear axle is that you need a good muffler, or at least one without resonance. The Flowmaster Super40's I had were a bit obnoxious. The big Magnaflow mufflers seemed to work best.

My new exhaust is duals into a single muffler with a 3" outlet. The muffler is a Spintech. I also took the tailpipe out to dump just before the shackle flip bracket.

I've got mine dumped at angles down and out basically right behind the rear tires but not extending actually behind the tires. It's not a K5 but this is what I did on a Blazer I used to own and had no issues. Seems like the turbulence behind the tires is what you want to have the exhaust going into. Sucks the fumes away from the vehicle.

What was wrong with the flowmasters? Too loud?

Flows are wayyy to loud if you don't have a cat :doah:

I like mine on my Sub(I didn't put it on) but I hate it.. weird I know :doah:Sound is good and really isn't so bad that you can't hear, just the constant rumble at cruise on the highway gets old. Running around town not so much, and is actually quite fun :D

My Sub has stock manifolds and y pipe, and then 3" all the way with a Flowmaster. Exits out the drivers side just in front of the rear bumper.
