So I just got a 77 Jimmy w/ 350 & SM465. This is completely stock. Bought it from the 78 year old original owner. So being in California I cannot put headers on it, and it does not have any cats. I want to throw some flowmasters on it or something of the sort. What is everyone running muffler wise with this set up? Any videos or sound bites that might help me make my decision easier? My other car is a 68 Camaro w/ 355 Long tubes with 3" exhaust and spintech mufflers, it is loud, but I am not looking for something quite this crazy for the Jimmy.

Haha coming..... the last picture, the ole man had a cell phone mount, I repurposed it for a temporary custom cup holder till I can get a plug and chug, (pending fitment with the shifter)

That's a dang nice truck.

I'd be tempted to go single 3" into a thrush welded muffler. They're about half the cost of a flowmaster, and hold up just as well

Just looked up the thrush welded, sounds good, and damn good price! I have what looks like new(ish) exhaust now, I would probably just swap out the stock sounding dual mufflers.

I've run both
They sound almost identical to a flowmaster, maybe not quite as loud.

If it has duals, that work well. I have a Camaro with the single. Sounds very healthy but not raspy

Super nice 'ol girl you got there. I'd be proud of that one. I agree on the exhaust. I've got dual flowmasters that dump in front of the axle and it sounds great but is pretty loud after a while.

I've got a really old flowmaster 40 on mine. Sounds good, but can be pretty loud. I go to work early and I live in a 55 and up community area (I'm not 55+ myself, just happen to be the only house not part of the retirement community) so I feel bad for my neighbors if they are light sleepers. I keep my foot light on the throttle in the morning and try to be the best neighbor possible though.

I'm thinking the thrush welded, or a delta 44. The 40s will prob be a little loud for me. Do you have full exhaust out the back?

You can run shorty headers as long as they have provisions for all the smog stuff (if you have air injection or heat riser)
If the truck had a cat at some point, it would say on the core support or even have a heat shield on the frame, just in case someone took it off. Technically, you have to have everything replaced back in their original locations. I like my 50 series on the blazer. I have H-pipe dual 2.5" 50s on the '68, they sound good too. Any louder than a 50, no thanks.

Also, are you local?

Yes, mine run out the back. I'd give up some volume if I could but its going to have to wait till the exhaust needs done again before it gets added to the budget. I'm happy with it, makes great noises but EVERYONE gets to hear them whether or not they want to.

if you want sound but not as much inside go flowmaster 50 series and delta flow . lot less inside harmonic sound over a 40 series.

I use to have a truck with a 40 on it . . . then I had to do a new muffler and got a deal on a 50 delta flow and WOW so much nicer inside the truck .

and I like the sound of a single muffler better than 2 .

I am located in the East bay, right by the delta in Brentwood (not la brentwood). I finally did some research and did find the headman headers that are California legal that come with the spots for the A.I.R. injection and stuff. Might be the way to go. It never had Cats from the factory thank god. If I go with the headers I will deff be doing the 50s. Headers + no cats + 50s will be almost as loud as a modern car with all the smog stuff and 40s is what I would guess.

dual 50s with H pipe on LS
Not nearly as loud as the video makes it to be. I can cruise at 45/70 and not even notice the exhaust.
