I would like to wrap my cross-over and down pipe with exhaust wrap, but need to know what kind I should get. There seems to be many different kinds. This is for a built 6.2 TD.

The standard seems to be fiberglass. There is also copper coated, ceramic, titanium, and slip on heat shields. Which is better?

What about the spray cans that paint over the wrap?

Since rust isnt a big problem over there, you can use any of the above. I don't like the spray over wraps, they keep moisture in longer. Get the pipe coated if you can, then wrap. It will last longer. the 6.2TD without an intercooler wont really matter all that much wrapped or not.

So are there any that are better than others? Should I just go with the fiberglass? Is there much or any quality difference from name brand (DEI, Thermotec) vs generic (Summit, ebay)? Stainless wire ties or hose clamps?

I do not see how an intercooler will make a difference. I want to wrap the downpipe to help protect other parts (GP's, AC Box) from heat due to the real tight clearances. I have heard that wrapping the cross-over will help spool times be more responsive. Not sure about that, but I figure while I am wrapping the DP, might as well do the cross-over.

Going to go with ceramic coated. Found a place that is local (1 hour away) that will do it for around $75.

i'll be sending my custom y-pipe out to get coated...
