Ok so i have $400 to burn towards a new exhaust system. Currently my exhaust is slowly falling appart... Its a true duel 2 1/4 inch pipe system with stock manifolds from LMC. Its worked fine, but I'd like something better. My truck is emissions exempt so I can run the exhaust however I want. I do like the duels exiting at right angles behind both rear tires.

I really want to do headers, and i'd like it on the louder side for mufflers.

Pypes performance exhaust seems to make some quality mufflers. I like their violator muffler the best.

I'm thinking headman headers

Any thoughts or input? I would like to go to 2 1/2 inch pipe just so everything matches up and I don't have to run reducers.

Dynomax headers come coated with the jet- hot materials. I got my wife a set of those for her camaro almost ten years ago, and they're holding up nice.. of course we got her the black ones, not chrome..

any exhaust shop ought to be able to bend the pipes and get you some "turbo" style mufflers..otherwise, a stainless system is worth the cash..that way, you'll never buy an exhaust again..

i am running dynomax headers and 2 1/4 inch dynomax exhaust pipe kit with hooker aero chambers but its got glass packs on it now and i put the hookers on my dd

I've always been told not to buy cheap headers. They don't fit well, and the flanges worp causing leaks. Thats why after reading that extensive review of the headman Elites, I have chosen to go with those. Other wise I would buy Doug Thorleys.

that's cool - I only went with the jet hot treated dynomax's 'cause some years earlier I had sent the hookers and h pipe from my 69 to jet hot, and was astounded by how they turned out..I liked the fact these would already be coated.. now that i think of it, I do have the periodic exhaust leak from the flanges, even with the thicker gaskets..

Hedmen Elites fit great , lots of driveshaft clearance. Had them for 3 years now and just starting to have rust pitting. No leaks at flange. No leaks at ball connector collector. Great quality header.

I'm running true dual Exhaust right out the back.. I have Flowmaster 40's with high flow cats and Flowtech shorty headers. I will be posting a video of my truck when I drive it back from the shop this weekend. It's 2.5" Exhaust pipe

If you dont have a high HP motor or race or anything like that. stick with stock manifolds. I wish I did. I didnt notice any power increase in my lil 305cid. I dont run my truck too hard and keep RPMs below 3500. I put some heddman headers on and had fit issues on the pass. side. It was hitting the shackle for the front leaf springs. Muff. shop "tweaked" the header to clear the shackle. Plus cheapo headers rust and dont bother with header paint, thatll last about 30seconds anyways. Now, ive never had a high dollar ceramic set of headers, but I hear they are alot better and you get your moneys worth. I think next go around im jus going back to cast iron manifolds. It makes plug changes easier and I dont have to tighten header bolts up every other month. my .02

As far as the rest of the exhaust, im running 2 1/4 true dual exhaust to Flowmasters and catco cats and running the pipes straight out the back. SOunds good and does the trick.

Well I do run my 305 pretty hard. I drive it on the highway pretty often and with no od, it spins at about 3000rpm. It often sees above 3500rpm as well. I also have a Weiand intake, a Holley carb, and Pertronix ignition system. The engine is actually an HO from a Firebird. It has decent balls too.

mufflers

I ran 3 inch from the headers back and used high flow cats and super 44's for mufflers. I got the mufflers on ebay for $65 each and $45 for each cat. If your looking to wake the neighborhood i recommend this set up, it is loud.
