Ok, the muffler is falling apart, it rattles thoughout the complete rpm range, and it's driving me nuts. Got all of the parts for the complete exhaust in the garage, just wondering has anyone cut off the cat, and muffler, and rear pipe and connected a glass pack? I got two glass packs from a brother from here. Anybody done it? How's it sound?

I used to have glasspacks, my system was like this, headers-dual pipes arond the tcase-glasspacks-dumps...... it sounded really good to, everyone liked it.

Wouldn't recommend it on a DD, but for an offroad only rig its fun.
Just dont plan on driving more than an hour without getting drowsy.

Just a cheap turbo muffler from the parts store ought to be fine, or a chambered one for a little more attitude.

Edit: or throw the glasspacks on and if they are a little loud or you dont like them, add the muffler to the end, It yields a pretty nice sound with a nice muffler and that off throttle pop of a glasspack. My dads cutlass used to run that setup

i push 366 hp and 400lbft tq, through two flowmaster glass packs, I can set off car alarms going down the street. DO IT!!!!:waytogo:

If you never listen to the radio or talk to passengers, it is fun for a while... not my speed anymore tho ... too much cop attention!

I think they sound too much like dropping firecrackers in a tin can. They are loud and sound cool in the truck, but idk i dont like the sound of them when you hear them drive away. Im a fan of that low growl noise. I put a $20 turbo pack in mine to replace the cat (my system had no muffler when i got it just a cat) and it honestly sounds pretty good, a little quieter than what i wanted, but they give you a little more back pressure than a glass pack. Just my $.02

Alright here's an idea, what about dropping the cat and existing muffler ( what's left of it) running staight pipe over the rear end then adding the glass pack? Would that make a difference on the interior sound level?

I doubt it but who knows, I would just go with a turbo pack, looks just like the glass packs but has internal stuff, not just straight through, def run alot quieter in the cab.

keep the cat or replace it with some "el cheapo" since I guess it doesn't mater where you live. I don't mind cats, they clean up the exhaust and don't hurt performance or sound.

I had a cat and glasspack with a turn down for a few years. It sounded ok when I was 21 but drove me crazy when the glasspack rotted out, not sure if it was the noise or me getting old. I ended up wearing ear plugs on the highway. I eventually scrapped the whole systems and switched to headers, true duals with thrush turbos. MUCH better.

Flowmaster doesn't make glass packs...just saying.

I'm about the same way. Used to love LOUD! Thought Flowmasters were AWE-SUM!
Then I got a bit older and now at 32 I'm tired of the loud roar and drone in my ears while going down the highway. Just took the rust, bad welds, and crappy work "turbo muffler" exhaust off my Tracker that the PO put on. Put a stockish setup on. It's sooooo much better.:doah: Was considering something like a Borla or Gibson for it with a bit of a bite but not a lot...but now I might just leave it.

Dunno what I'm going to do with The Blazer. Diesel, no interior insulation or carpet, 33" muds, and some kind of turbo mufflers scabbed on in place of the factory mufflers. It's LOUD after a while. Fun playing around town though.

What about a cut out for early mornings and then switch to the glass packs when I feel like being loud.

Edit: that's why I like Ck5 we can pool our ideas and experiences for everyone.

Ha your funny, $260 for a glass pack. I spent $25 to buy it! Call me cheap. Seriously with my luck and how Murphy has it in for me as soon as I put that $260 glass pack on, I'd smash it closed. Then it would be worth nothing!
