so im thinking about putting flowmaster 44's on my 1993 k1500 truck. and watched a few videos on youtube an seem to like them but i came up with different sounding ones.
for example.

as opposed to this sound.

now does the first video sound different because higher compression and cam and carb.
so how can i get my truck to sound like the first video.

I have long tube headers and super 44s on my '88 K5. The cackle in the first video may be a bigger cam and some may be attributed to the possibility that there's no crossover pipe or balance tube, so the exhaust from each bank is more pronounced. Could also be the mic in the camera causing some difference as well.

Mine has a mild cam and sounds more like the second (white) truck, FWIW.

yeah im thinking if mines gonna sound like the second video i might just buy a glasspack or something that aint to expensive

I think some of the difference between the two may be that the second one has manifolds as opposed to some type of header.
I know everyone always wants "true duals" but honestly a properly sized single on most average rigs will work as well or better then alot of dual setups especially ones with out an X or an H pipe.
I re did the exhaust on my K30 when I added the anti wrap bar from 2.5" dual flow master 40s that dumped over the axle to a single 3" summit brand flow master copy that also dumps over the axle and honestly it sounds pretty cool...much "smoother" sound then the duals . Just another option for you and the muffler was only $30.

Flowmasters patent ran out, Thrush now makes a knock off if you want the sound and not the price.

I personally think that "cackle" sound is from running too small of a diameter of pipe. I ran true duals on an old Nova with a 2.5" pipe, never had that cackle/popping sound.

Every time I seem to hear that sound it's from someone running 2" or what look like smaller pipes.

I had a friend in Phoenix that ran some of those 44's and had it piped with 3" pipe,, that stupid thing was LOUD.

They are made in china and they are junk. My stock muffler blew a hole in the top of it and was heating the floor. (Would have burned the truck down if I had rear carpet.) Needed something cheap in a 3" muffler to clamp on my y pipe to get me by a few months until I get duals put on it. Bought the thrush because it was the cheapest 3" muffler I could find. It feels cheap and sh!tty, welds are garbage. My big block does sound nice with just a y pipe and it, though. I wouldn't use them on any kind of real exhaust system, I don't think they last.

the first vid the rig doesnt run pipes all the way out witch will make a deeper sound

I'm just curious, is there something wrong with the Hooker brand exhaust components that people don't mention them anywhere?

I ran two Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers, one on the Camaro and one on the Nova, they sounded very similar to the Flowcrappers but didn't have that echoing tinny sound a Flowcrapper has, just a decent low end rumble.

Didn't have any clacky sound either, nice low semi-quiet rumble at idle, opened up a tad more when under throttle with no clacky/clappy sounds.

EDIT:

Something tells me a lot of people out there are running without a cat or are running aftermarket high flow units, after watching some of the Hooker muffler videos, most of them seemed to be really loud. Mine was not as loud as most of those vids, but I was also still running the factory cat on the Camaro with 3" to the muffler and dual 2'5" put.

Runnin thrush welded 2 chambers on my Beaumont. Been a good muffler, sounds good. Car doesn't see salt or mud so I'd expect em to last a long time .

I have super 44's on my blazer. it has hooker headers and true duals without cats. It is way too loud for me. it sounds more like the first video but with a lot more rumble since I am running a 236/242 @.050 cam. you can't carry on a conversation at all while driving especially over 55 mph, eventually I want a new exhaust system with some quieter mufflers.

There's an eBay store "Performance Curve" or something like that, has lots of Flowmaster clones and other real inexpensive mufflers with good ratings.

The very best muffler you can ever have is a turbo. Just throwing that out there...
