Replacing my mufflers.. Flowmaster or Magnaflow? What ya'll say ?

I run dual 40 series Flowmasters, and my truck sounds like a race car. It's loud. I like it.
There'll be no sneaking up on anyone, as you can hear my truck from blocks away (so I'm told).

Thrush welded. As stated above, and I agree, they're cheaper and a better sound than flowmaster. Maybe you can hear them if the video plays.

I have them on my blazer and will put them on my C10 as well...
@Bent77 recommended them and I couldn't be more stoked.

I like Flo-Pro if you can find them. Almost a "Flowmaster" type sound but without the annoying bass resonance that come with Flowmaster type chambered mufflers. Made in Canada from heavy gauge steel, they last at least as long as Flowmaster with no packing to deteriorate.

Thrush Welded or Glasspacks. Just not a fan of FLowmasters. I've had Glasspacks with true dual exhaust on all my Chevies. I like the sound (especially next to a Jap Burner) and I lose no power in the exhaust at all. You can't get any more flow than a glasspack.

What's really sad is I heard both Flowmaster and Thrush mufflers are all made in China now.
At least the Flowmasters on my truck are the American made ones.

Couldn't find anything on the Thrush website that said that but I wouldnt be surprised either. Caterpillar crankshafts are manufactured in Mexico for crying out loud. Anything to protect that bottom line.

The market is flooded with Flowmaster knockoffs made in China. I'm not surprised that they finally gave up and let the Chinese build their mufflers too.

What didnt you like about them
They were too rowdy for my taste at idle and loud at driving. I know there are more rowdy ones out there but I wanted a more mellow sound at idle and at driving speed. Thrush welded fit that bill.

With that said, the venom250 was dumping under the truck before the rear axle. I'm sure had I just had the exhaust exit out the back it may have contained that a bit.

I figured since I'm having the exhaust redone why chance it and keep the venom250, so I opted for a change when having the exhaust redone.

the venom250 is nice but I prefer something a tad more tame.

that makes sense i orginally had my 250s dumping out the side in a factory location they are pretty mellow. now i have a axle dump and they can be a little loud going down the highway. i only changed due to the rear ORD springs having way more down travel than my factory springs.

Are ya'll running 2.25 or 2.5 pipes? Currently have single 2.25 with magnaflow... I like the sound not loud but not quite... also was wondering if performance and sound wise will it make a difference going dual

Are you running 2.25 in one muffler? There’s quite a bit performance step going up in size

the recommendation above this post by @nvrenuf is highly recommended

I’m running 2.5” dual into 3” mufflers, with a crossover

Single 2.25 is VERY restrictive. For a stock 350, a single 2.50 is barely adequate. Single 3" would be better as long as you can get a good quality tailpipe. A muffler shop crush bent 3" pipe will often be restricted so much that you're better off going with 2.50.

The most restrictive point in the stock system is the "Y" itself. Going to an aftermarket "Y" will make a noticeable difference if you keep the single system. Flowmaster and Magnaflow both make Y's that are much less restrictive than the factory unit.

An aftermarket dual 2" into single 2.50" Y, 2.50 midpipe, single offset/center Magnaflow type muffler (Flow FX, Xcelerator, etc), and single 2.50 tailpipe will be the best bang for the buck that a local muffler shop can fabricate locally. It will flow well and have a performance tone without being too loud or droning at highway cruise speeds. If you can find a shop that stocks Flo-Pro mufflers one of those is also a good choice and will last much longer than any Magnaflow type muffler.
