So I need to get a cage in the blazer before I can take my 3 year old wheel'in and I'm debating between the two cages. I can't find a donor (73-75 around here) so i am leaning towards an Exo cage. Any opinions on what's better? Anyone with experience with both? Pics of different Exo's on your rigs? And I did do a search and liked bboys exo.

Not and expert by any means, just my $.02. If you really have a nice solid body (blazer body):haha: then I'd go with an exo cage but if that were the case why would you trash a perfectly nice blazer body. Just a guess, but I'd think it would be much more expensive to build an exo than an internal cage because the total length of tube used on an exo is greater plus it would probably be much harder to fab up whether you are a pro or do a home job. Also, is this truck driven on the street much or strictly a trail rig? I really don't like the look of exo cages on rigs that are used to be driven much on the street, especially DDs. I think it looks really corny. Internals look sweet if they are done right. Safari/family cages look the best. Let us know what you decide and keep us posted.

an exo makes an already big rig bigger. maybe you have a really nice rig and want to keep it that way. thats fine, buy a beater, cut away everything that doesn't get you down the trail and cage whats left.

I went with an internal cage myself.

I agree that it would make it a lot bigger, but I wouldn't cut up a nice one to put a cage in.

It's not a daily driver but does get driven on the street. The body is in good shape, but I am going to cut out the fenders for 39" Iroks (lots of cutting) as I have a 4" lift on it now. i am more about function over form so appearances don't matter that much to me.

It is easier and cheaper to get an internal cage to be safe & strong. There are some kits that can be had in the aftermarket to put a cage in a K5 pretty easy were a exo is completely custom. An exo can be made safe & functional but it takes alot more planning, time, & skill.

I personally have an interior cage in mine and really like it. An exo would make my truck bigger then it is and make it harder to wheel in the rocks and tight trails I do in AZ. I would do an interior cage and if you still want to do an exo for more strength then do that too.

That's great, now I just need to find a donor 73-75 so I can go topless:D They are a rare item in CO.

Rocks and tree's can go right through an 'exo'.

Exo's are big and big.

If your all about function, and your putting 39's on there with 4 inches of lift..............go internal.

considering what you are saying about your build plans... yeah, go internal. Its only a matter of time before you start wanting to be narrower etc anyway... and there isn't anything narrow about a rig with an exo. Even one done by a pro ads quite a bit of width to a rig.

If you actually go wheeling enough where you think you need a cage , your going to end up hitting the body panels sooner or later , things stick out sometimes , and tag the panels anyway .

I struggled with the keep it looking nice thing for too long . Now I don't care , the wheeling is more important than how it looks .
I am starting an internal cage , the first section will hopefully be in for BB07 .

With the full convert I think internal cages is the best way to go, I like mine.

Yep, the general consensus is internal cage. I'll try to find a donor 73-75 to go topless.
