External hub question

I have external hubs on my K5 and this style hub is new to me. I believe they need to be replaced but I've never cracked one of these open. Is it much different than internal hubs as far as replacement? I can usually get an idea from a video or diagram but I can't seem to find anything online. Any help would be appreciated.

are your hub manual or self locking. The manual hubs are pretty easy to work with.

@jamezz check out this album, it’s a Spicer manual and covers both internal and external hubs.




They are cool but the cross pin on the backside of the knob is probably the weakest link in those hubs. If overall the hubs are in decent shape they have value for parts as they were discontinued almost 50 years ago. eBay is a good place to look for parts.
