Anybody have a link to where I could find one ? Id like to remove mine from the inside and I cant go on top as I have a Thule Ski/snowboard box and Bike rack up there .
Thanx

If you're talking about a little stock tire (30" or less), there are some body-mounted carriers available - used to be optional equipment in the 70's. There also used to be kits that mounted the spare tire in front of the grill. For bigger meats, the popular option here is having a custom rear bumper built with a tire carrier built-in. There is the stinger style that swings down and a swing-away style that pivots horizontally. Either of these is in the range of several hundred dollars. Some vendors have dabbled with a swing-away carrier that mounts underneath a stock rear bumper, but with the sub-frame and bracing it cost almost as much as building a whole bumper.

Roll your own..Ill post pics later but I had mine built with a heavy duty rear bumper , it includes gas can carrier and spare tire mount. It works great.

bumper

you could always get any of the heavy duty standard bumpers such as a reunell or something like that and add a spare tire carrier to it. thats what im thinking of doing.

I have a tire rack that mounts to the body of a Blazer, it was on my 72. I am not using it and am willing to part with it if thats what you are looking for. It is actually a pretty high quality style/brand. It has locking lug nuts to lock the tire to the actual carrier, I thought that was a bonus if I was going to use it.

Couple of thoughts, it looks cool but over time they WILL damage the body where it is mounted to, these were not designed to support things like that hanging off them. I took it off mine for that reason. Maybe someone will chime in with a different perspective, tire size/type of wheeling if any may affect it in diffent ways. :dunno:

I will definitly get a bumper built with the tire mount on it in the future.

BTW, I am running 33's (last picture) and it seemed up to par on holding it, just not sure about long term with something that heavy.

As I posted in another thread, Off Road Ltd in Aurora Co makes one, and I ran into a small time fabber today that makes REALLY good looking and beefy stuff. PM for his number if you'd like to talk to him.

I've been thinking about building a tire carrier that goes into my hitch... I trailer my rig and most places I wheel camp isn't that far to go get a spare...

But, at Naches camp is usually really far away... This way I can have it with me when I'm gonna be out a ways, or leave it at camp and any of my buddies can run back and get it if I can't...

Something like this for our trucks would be perfect.
